Service

Wheelchair Accessible Taxis

Western Cars operates wheelchair accessible vehicles as part of its Worthing fleet, so passengers who use a wheelchair can travel in comfort and safety rather than being transferred into a standard car. Tell us your requirements when you book and we will assign the correct vehicle and a driver briefed to help.

Wheelchair accessible vehicles and assistance with boarding

Journeys we provide accessible vehicles for

Accessible transport is a practical necessity for many of our passengers, and it is a service we take seriously:

  • Hospital, clinic and GP appointments, including early admissions
  • Day centres, respite and care home visits
  • Airport and seaport transfers with an accessible vehicle
  • Shopping trips, days out and social occasions
  • Family occasions, weddings and celebrations
  • Regular recurring journeys on an account or contract

Booking accessible transport with confidence

The most important thing is to tell us at the time of booking. Mentioning that an accessible vehicle is needed, together with the type of wheelchair and whether the passenger will remain seated in it, means we can assign the correct car first time.

If you need the driver to wait during an appointment, or to come into a building to collect a passenger, say so when you book and we will build it into the arrangement. Carers and companions travel with the passenger as normal.

How it works

Booking this service, step by step

No accounts to create and no forms to fight with first — tell us the journey and we will confirm the details and the fare.
  1. Tell us what you need

Let us know that a wheelchair accessible vehicle is required, the type and size of wheelchair, and whether the passenger will remain in it for the journey.

  2. We reserve the right vehicle

We allocate an accessible vehicle to your booking so it is guaranteed rather than requested on the day.

  3. Driver assists on arrival

Your driver deploys the ramp, assists with boarding and secures the wheelchair before setting off.

  4. Assistance at the destination

The driver helps with alighting and, for appointments, will wait where the booking includes waiting time.

Pricing

What the fare covers, and what it does not

We would rather be clear about this than have it come as a surprise at the end of a journey.
  • Fares are based on the vehicle type and the miles travelled, with fixed fees for a range of destinations including the major airports.
  • Airport, seaport and other pre-agreed journeys are quoted as a fixed price that is confirmed at the time of booking.
  • We charge the same rates whatever the time of day or night, so early-morning and late-night journeys cost no more.
  • No hidden charges and no surge pricing.
  • Additional charges can apply for waiting time, extra stops, tolls, parking fees or journeys on public holidays.
